Why Freestyle asks for the data it does
Last updated: June 16, 2026
Freestyle is an AI assistant that lives inside Gmail. To draft your replies, schedule your meetings, and quiet your inbox, the extension has to ask Google for a small set of specific permissions. This page lists every one of them, explains what we do with the data, and is explicit about what we do not do.
You can revoke any of these permissions at any time by visiting myaccount.google.com/connections and removing Freestyle from your connected apps.
Gmail (read + modify)
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.modify
What we use it for
- Read message subjects, bodies, senders, and labels for the inbox you are currently viewing so the AI can suggest the next action (reply, archive, schedule, unsubscribe).
- Draft replies in your voice and place them in your Gmail drafts. You always review and send the message yourself.
- Apply labels, archive, or mark as read on emails you ask Freestyle to handle (either by clicking a button in the extension or by setting up an automation rule).
- Detect unsubscribe links and trigger the unsubscribe flow when you press the keyboard shortcut.
What we do not do with it
- Delete email permanently. The gmail.modify scope does not include delete; archive and trash are the most destructive actions possible, and only when you ask for them.
- Send email without your confirmation. Drafts are placed in Gmail. You hit send.
- Forward your email anywhere outside Google. Message contents are sent only to our backend for AI processing and then discarded after the response is returned.
- Use your email content to train any AI model.
Google Calendar
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar
What we use it for
- Read your calendar availability so the AI can propose meeting times when an email asks to schedule something.
- Create or update calendar events when you confirm a proposed meeting from inside Gmail.
What we do not do with it
- Modify events you have not asked Freestyle to touch.
- Share your calendar with anyone outside Google.
- Store your full calendar in our database. We read availability on demand and discard it after the suggestion is made.
Basic profile (email + name)
openid · email · profile
What we use it for
- Identify your account so we can sign you in, link your subscription, and apply your usage credits.
- Display your name and avatar in the extension UI.
What we do not do with it
- Look up anything beyond your name, email address, and profile photo.
- Match your identity to any third-party advertising network.
Our commitments
- We never sell, rent, or share your Google data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
- We never use the contents of your Gmail or Calendar to train or fine-tune any AI model, ours or anyone else's.
- Message content is sent to AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) only for the duration needed to generate a draft or suggestion, and is not retained by those providers for training.
- You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the extension settings.
